Pregnancy and the journey into parenthood can feel like a roller coaster to say the least. Even the most healthy and well-adjusted individuals and couples can struggle during this season of life due to the amount of change, uncertainty, discomfort, hormones, and fear that comes with it.
Individual perinatal counseling
Individual counseling can be very helpful in dealing with some of the overwhelming feelings and mood swings of pregnancy, and postpartum. Often times a new baby can trigger unresolved issues from your past or even magnify current stressors or relationship issues. Sometimes having a baby isn’t what you expected, or you might have a very challenging newborn leaving you feeling exhausted, anxious or depressed. Let me help you sort through your thoughts and emotions and help you to learn some new ways to cope with stress, worries, fears, and discomforts.
Perinatal Couple Counseling
In my opinion, this is the absolutely best gift you can give your new family and child. Becoming a parent has big implications for each individual, as well as the relationship between parents, sometimes completely changing the relationship dynamics. It is all too normal to experience a decrease in relationship satisfaction and increased tension, communication issues, and fights during this time because of the shifts, changes, and lack of sleep. During sessions we will discuss relationship expectations, roles of the mother and father, ways to stay connected as a couple, and how to support each other in this exciting and difficult time, and any other couple specific issues that have surfaced.
