Working with Teens
The teen years can be some of the most challenging times in an individuals life. Do you think your teen is struggling with low self esteem, lack of self confidence, or experiencing fear of failure? Is your teen irritable or having trouble sleeping because they can’t shut their mind off, worried about peers or about their grades? Has your teen started to withdraw and you fear they might be struggling with depression or anxiety? I help teens by creating a non judgmental caring atmosphere, validating their feelings and struggles, guiding them to see different perspectives, encouraging them to love themselves, and educating them on what they are specifically going through. I also focus on instilling positive coping skills and social skills to not only make it through, but to grow and mature in this season of life. I want your teen or young adult to believe in themselves, learn and grow from their mistakes, learn how to work through future challenges, and to believe that they are worthy and able to have an amazing life.
decision making and motivation
Every teen and family is unique, so parent involvement will vary. Parents are encouraged to attend part of the initial intake session to share their perspective and family history. We will process together what the involvement will look like, so that you and your teen can feel comfortable knowing what is to be expected and what will be shared or kept confidential within each session. For some teens my work is primarily with them, and in some situations I work closely with the parents to help them to develop communication techniques, family routine, and consequences to improve behavior, mood, and family unity.
